More About Lizzy Ball, LCSW

I’m so pleased to get to share a little more about myself and my work with you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (IL no. 149.021255) who works with adults via individual, couples, and group therapy. My clinical interests include trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, attachment/family-of-origin issues, relationships, mindfulness and self-compassion. I strive to provide a non-judgmental, oppression-aware, LGBTQ-affirming and polyamory- and kink-inclusive space.

I believe that the client-therapist alliance is a powerful setting for healing and knowledge of self, and that every person deserves the opportunity to create positive change in their life. I empower clients to build and discover new pathways by experimenting with the feedback loop between emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

Each session is tailored to the client(s), their immediate needs, and client-directed goals. I like to draw from an eclectic mix of theoretical frameworks and modalities, including cognitive, emotive, and somatic approaches to trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. I have also had the opportunity to complete the Gottman Institute Level One Training, which enriches my work with couples, as well as my relational work with individuals.

Before seeing clients in private practice, I worked in group practice, employee assistance programs and community mental health. My Master’s degree in Social Work is from Texas State University, and my undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas at Austin.

When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, cooking and baking, biking, and being outdoors and in nature. I share a sunny apartment in Chicago with two cats named Frida and Kahlo. If we work together by video, you will surely meet them too!
